How to detect knee osteoarthritis early?

The knee joint is a weight-bearing joint in the human body. When an accidental injury or sprain occurs, or when the knee joint is elderly, there will be a certain amount of wear and tear. Symptoms of osteoarthritis are likely to appear at this time. When the weather changes at this time, it is easy to cause symptoms of soreness, redness and swelling, and it is easy to get stuck when walking. When the condition is more serious, it can cause cartilage degeneration and even lead to mobility problems.

1. It is difficult to climb stairs

If you are not as agile as before when climbing stairs, or even have to hold the handrail and use your upper limb strength to complete the movement, this means that you have bone hyperplasia (also called "bone spur") in your knee joint.

2. Symptoms change with the weather

Whenever the weather changes, if your knee joints experience unusually uncomfortable symptoms such as soreness, local redness, swelling, heat and pain, you may have rheumatoid arthritis.

3. The car suddenly gets stuck while walking on a flat road

When walking on a flat road, the knee joint suddenly feels like it is locked and cannot move. It can only be unlocked with the help of external force, such as moving the knee joint with your hands. This is what is medically called locking. If the knee joint becomes "stuck", it may be a ligament sprain in mild cases or a meniscus tear in severe cases.

Regular exercise is also helpful in preventing and treating osteoarthritis.

1. Sit on a chair, place your feet on another chair of similar height, and slowly press your bent knees down. This exercise works the quadriceps. But remember to be gentle so as not to hurt your knees.

2. Sit on a chair, put your legs together, lift one leg, straighten it, and push it forward with force, as if there is a balloon in front of you and you are trying to burst it. Hold for 6 seconds. Alternate legs 5 to 10 times. Can enhance leg muscle strength.
