Recurrence rate of uterine cancer after chemotherapy

Recurrence rate of uterine cancer after chemotherapy

Cervical cancer is the most common type of gynecological malignancy. If it is not treated actively, it may be life-threatening. Chemotherapy is not a common treatment for cervical cancer, but some patients must undergo chemotherapy for special reasons. After treatment, they must pay attention to care to avoid recurrence. So how long can a patient live after chemotherapy for cervical cancer? Experts say that there is no definite answer to how long a patient can live after chemotherapy. It depends on your situation.

So far, cervical cancer is not sensitive to most anticancer drugs, and the effective rate of chemotherapy does not exceed 15%. Advanced patients can be treated with comprehensive treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Chemotherapy drugs such as 5-fluorouracil and doxorubicin can be injected intravenously or locally.

Chemotherapy is a systemic treatment method suitable for treating advanced cases. In the past, it was believed that chemotherapy was not effective enough for cervical cancer, with a low remission rate and a short remission period. For advanced patients, it can only relieve pain and prolong life. In recent years, with the continuous emergence of new anticancer drugs, the gradual improvement of drug administration routes, the combined use of multiple drugs, etc., chemotherapy has become an effective adjuvant therapy in the treatment of cervical cancer. It can be used for advanced cases or combined with surgery and radiotherapy, and can also be used to treat recurrent cancer. Chemical drugs can act directly on tumors, and some drugs can also enhance the biological effects of radiotherapy.

1. Combination therapy: Combination therapy generally selects two or more drugs for treatment based on the drug's mechanism of action, point of action, and toxicity of the drug. There are many combined chemotherapy regimens for cervical cancer, among which chemotherapy regimens based on cisplatin and bleomycin have good efficacy. Commonly used regimens include cisplatin + bleomycin + vincristine, cisplatin + bleomycin + doxorubicin. Combination regimens based on doxorubicin include doxorubicin + methotrexate.

2. Single-drug therapy: In the past, chemotherapy for cervical cancer was mostly single-drug therapy, and commonly used drugs include nitrogen mustard, bleomycin, mitomycin, 5-FU, etc. In recent years, it has been found that the efficacy of cisplatin in treating cervical cancer is better than other drugs.

3. Regional chemotherapy with arterial catheterization: Generally, the route of administration of chemotherapy for cervical cancer is systemic intravenous administration. Regional chemotherapy with arterial catheterization is a chemotherapy method developed in recent years. The artery is inserted into the internal iliac artery through the inferior epigastric artery to the level of the common iliac artery, and chemotherapy drugs are infused. Commonly used drugs include 5-FU, ammonia mustard, bleomycin, cisplatin, doxorubicin, etc. Ammonia mustard is generally the first choice.

4. Combined treatment of chemotherapy and radiotherapy: Combining chemotherapy with radiotherapy may improve the treatment effect of advanced cervical cancer. Its application methods can be chemotherapy before radiotherapy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the same time, chemotherapy after radiotherapy, etc.

5. Comprehensive treatment of chemotherapy and surgery: The methods used include preoperative chemotherapy and postoperative chemotherapy.
