With the development of colorectal cancer treatment technology, the treatment effect of early colorectal cancer is very good. According to the statistics of the United States in the 1990s, the 5-year survival rate of stage I colorectal cancer is over 90%, stage II is about 80%, and stage III is about 60%. However, if it reaches the fourth stage, that is, the late stage, then this rate is less than 10%. The recurrence rate of colorectal cancer is also closely related to the stage at the time of diagnosis. Generally speaking, the earlier the colorectal cancer is discovered, the lower the recurrence rate will be. Of course, there is no absolute way to prevent the recurrence or metastasis of colorectal cancer after surgery. Standardized adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy after surgery can reduce the recurrence and metastasis of colorectal cancer or prolong the time of recurrence and metastasis, but there is still the possibility of recurrence and metastasis, so regular follow-up is very important. Generally speaking, the recurrence rate of colorectal cancer is highest in the first two years, so patients need to be reviewed every 3 to 6 months, and this frequency must be maintained for at least two years. After two years, it can be changed to once every six months, and then maintained for another three years. In this way, if there is no recurrence for a total of five years, we can consider that colorectal cancer has been clinically cured. In addition to regular check-ups, you also need to pay attention to your lifestyle and diet. First of all, try to eat less high-fat and high-protein foods, because these foods will increase the concentration of bile acids, especially secondary bile acids, that have a carcinogenic effect in the intestinal cavity. If you also consume a lot of protein, it will be degraded by intestinal bacteria to produce carcinogenic amino acid degradation products. It can be seen that a large intake of meat and cooking oil can increase the risk of colorectal cancer. In addition, it is best to eat less fried and grilled foods. On the contrary, you should eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, and eat more coarse grains rich in dietary fiber. In addition, patients should quit smoking and not stay up late. We encourage patients to return to work after treatment, but pay attention to appropriately adjust the intensity of work, do not put too much pressure on yourself, and strengthen physical exercise, all of which will help reduce the recurrence of colorectal cancer. Of course, even if these measures are strictly implemented, colorectal cancer may still recur and metastasize. But recurrence and metastasis are not something that makes people despair. As long as they are discovered early, the treatment effect is still good. |
