The harm of pinworms

The harm of pinworms

Pinworms are a type of bacterial proliferation caused by environmental factors. Men, women, young and old can be infected, but they are more common in children. Pinworms are small nematodes that parasitize the intestines. They cause harm to the human body in two main ways. The first is skin damage, which includes itching on the skin surface and even itching in the anus. The second is that it may cause mild gastrointestinal diseases in patients.

What are the dangers of pinworm disease?

Babies with pinworms may experience mild digestive tract problems, but most have no obvious symptoms. Itching of the perineum or perianal area often occurs at night. Since the baby's anus is relaxed when sleeping at night, the female insect will crawl out and lay eggs around the anus, which will irritate the baby's skin, causing itching symptoms and affecting the baby's sleep.

If the baby scratches with his hands, it may cause skin infection, and the female worms may also invade the baby's reproductive system, such as the vagina and urethra, causing inflammation symptoms. When the baby scratches, the eggs will hide in the nails and cause secondary infection after being ingested orally. If you find small white worms wriggling in your baby's anus while he is sleeping at night, you can clearly diagnose that your baby has pinworm disease.

It usually takes about a month from infection to development into an adult, and the lifespan of an adult is generally 20-30 days.

How to correctly prevent and care for pinworm disease?

1. Preventive measures

Keep the home environment clean. It is best to wipe and disinfect toys, utensils, floors, tables and chairs in the home with disinfectant. Toys can be disinfected by exposing them to the sun. And when cleaning, use wet sweeping to prevent insect eggs from flying with the dust.

Parents must make sure their babies develop good eating and hygiene habits, such as washing hands before meals and after defecation, and after playing, not letting babies suck their fingers, cutting their nails regularly, changing their underwear frequently and boiling them for disinfection, etc.

2. Nursing measures

If you accidentally get pinworm disease, you must take it seriously and be careful to avoid repeated infection. Generally, you should clean your anus with warm water before going to bed, and then apply anthelmintics for treatment and care. Pinworm is a small nematode, about 2-10 cm long. It is an intestinal parasite that parasitizes the human body. Men, women, young and old can be infected with pinworm disease. After the child falls asleep, you can look at the child's anus. Generally, you can see the pinworm and the diagnosis can be made (parents can make the diagnosis). Symptoms: Clinically, itching in the perineum and around the anus and restless sleep are common symptoms. In severe cases, the anus is extremely itchy. This is because female pinworms migrate to the anus while the child is sleeping at night and lay a large number of eggs outside the anus. This process irritates the skin and causes itching, so itching occurs in the anus and perineum, causing children to have sleepless nights. Symptoms of pinworm disease include severe anal itching, irritability, weight loss, sallow complexion, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Some children may also have symptoms such as frequent urination and enuresis.
