I think many people, like me, always feel that there is phlegm in their throats, but when they want to spit it out, it feels like there is nothing left. Many people think that this is not a big deal. In fact, it is not what everyone thinks. If you always feel that you have phlegm, it is because there is some disease in your body. So what is the reason for phlegm in the throat? There are many reasons for excessive phlegm: First, weak constitution and insufficient vital energy. Due to spleen deficiency, water and moisture can remain and condense into phlegm. Second, the spleen and stomach are weak, and stagnation of water can damage the spleen and stomach; or eating too much raw food, melons and fruits can damage the middle yang; or drinking too much water due to fever and inadequate spleen function can cause water and moisture to retain and gather into phlegm. In addition, eating too much fatty and sweet food can cause turbid air to accumulate in the stomach, generate dampness and heat, and turn into turbid phlegm. Third, if exogenous infection is not treated properly, or if a person is weak and suffers from exogenous infection repeatedly, the lung qi will be damaged and unable to transport fluid to the four parts of the body and regulate the water channels to transport it to the bladder, causing the fluid to retain and form phlegm. The phlegm is stored in the lungs, the lung qi is not well affected, and the phlegm rushes into the airways, which will inevitably cause coughing and excessive phlegm. What should I do if I always feel phlegm in my throat? . Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the production of phlegm is mainly related to the lungs and spleen. The lungs control breathing and regulate the entry, exit, and rise and fall of zongqi (vital energy). If the lungs fail to descend, symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and uneven sleeping may occur. When wind or cold invades the lungs, the body fluid in the lungs condenses into phlegm. The spleen is responsible for transportation and transformation, that is, digesting and transporting nutrients to various organs. If dampness invades the human body, or if one thinks too much, is overworked, or has an unhealthy diet, the spleen can be damaged and lose its function of transporting and transforming water, causing dampness to stagnate inside the body and condense into phlegm. 1. TCM Syndrome Differentiation and Treatment of Excessive Phlegm Traditional Chinese medicine divides phlegm into cold phlegm, wet phlegm and dry phlegm. 1. Cold phlegm is caused by cold evil invading the lungs, causing the body fluid in the lungs to condense into phlegm. Dampness and phlegm invade the human body (such as living in a humid environment), causing lung and spleen dysfunction or improper diet and metabolism. The sputum is white and watery. The patient has symptoms such as heaviness, fatigue or loose stools, and the tongue coating is thin white or greasy. Erchen Decoction with added ingredients: 10 grams of processed Pinellia, 10 grams of Tangerine Peel, 10 grams of Poria, 5 grams of Roasted Licorice, 10 grams of Apricot, 15 grams of Coix Seed, and 10 grams each of Atractylodes. 3. The patient feels dryness in the mouth, nose and throat, and the tongue coating is thin and yellow. The Qingzao Jiufei Decoction includes: 15 grams of Northern Adenophora, 10 grams each of Asparagus and Ophiopogon, 30 grams of Gypsum, 10 grams of roasted loquat leaves, 10 grams of apricot kernel, 15 grams of Rehmannia, 10 grams of Fritillaria thunbergii, and 15 grams of Polygonatum odoratum.
