Disease is something we cannot control. When something goes wrong with our body, we need to go to the hospital for treatment. As our lifestyles change, various chronic diseases are beginning to increase. So, what diseases are considered chronic diseases? In fact, the high blood pressure, high blood lipids, diabetes, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases we talk about in our daily lives are all types of chronic diseases. The full name of chronic disease is chronic non-communicable diseases. It does not refer to a specific disease, but is a general term for a class of diseases with hidden onset, long course and protracted illness, lack of definite evidence of infectious biological causes, complex causes, and some of which have not yet been fully confirmed. Common chronic diseases include cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases. Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases include hypertension, stroke, and coronary heart disease. The harm of chronic diseases mainly causes damage to important organs such as the brain, heart, and kidneys, which can easily lead to disability, affect work ability and quality of life, and the medical expenses are extremely expensive, increasing the economic burden on society and families. On April 10, 2015, the National Health and Family Planning Commission held a routine press conference and released the "Report on the Progress of Disease Prevention and Control in China (2015)", which reviewed and summarized the progress of disease prevention and control in China since the founding of the People's Republic of my country, especially in the past 10 years, using a large amount of detailed data. The report said that although the comprehensive prevention and control of chronic diseases has been gradually strengthened, the prevention and control situation remains severe. Chronic diseases such as cerebrovascular disease and malignant tumors have become the main causes of death. The number of deaths caused by chronic diseases has accounted for 86.6% of the total deaths in the country, compared with 85% previously, and the disease burden caused by chronic diseases accounts for nearly 70% of the total disease burden. A survey by the World Health Organization shows that 60% of the causes of chronic diseases depend on an individual’s lifestyle, and are also related to factors such as genetics, medical conditions, social conditions and climate. In terms of lifestyle, unreasonable diet, insufficient physical activity, tobacco use and harmful use of alcohol are the four major risk factors for chronic diseases. |
