How to judge whether toothpaste contains fluoride, or how much it contains? In fact, buyers can only know it through the packaging of the toothpaste. But basically all toothpastes contain fluoride, it is just a matter of amount. Fluoride does have a certain protective effect on the health of teeth, but it needs to be used effectively. There is a label on the toothpaste bag to indicate whether it contains fluoride toothpaste. The term "fluoride-free toothpaste" is actually inaccurate. All toothpastes contain fluoride, the only difference is the amount, and the difference between intentionally added and naturally contained. 1. The national standard for fluoride content in toothpaste in my country is 400 to 1500 mg/kg of total fluoride, and no less than 400 mg/kg of free fluoride. Scientific research has shown that the "definite lethal dose" of sodium fluoride taken orally is 5-10 grams per day for adults, which is equivalent to 2.24-4.48 grams of fluoride. The "possible toxic dose" of fluoride is 5 mg fluoride/kg body weight, and the "safe tolerable dose" of fluoride is about 3-5 mg/kg body weight. 2. Among them, "definitely lethal dose" refers to the dose of fluoride that can cause death if ingested daily; "potentially toxic dose" refers to the minimum dose that may cause symptoms and signs of poisoning and should require immediate therapeutic intervention and hospitalization; "safe tolerable dose" refers to the maximum dose that will not cause death. 3. The fluoride in a tube of fluoride toothpaste can poison a child. Usually, the standard weight of a tube of children's toothpaste on the market is 65 grams. Even if the maximum limit of 1500 mg/kg stipulated by national standards is met, the fluoride content of each tube of toothpaste is only 97.5 mg. For a child weighing 20 kg, the potentially toxic dose is 100 mg. Therefore, consuming a tube of fluoride toothpaste every day is just approaching a potentially toxic dose. How to choose toothpaste correctly 1. Ordinary toothpaste has the common functions of general toothpaste. If your teeth are in good health, you can choose ordinary toothpaste. 2. Fluoride toothpaste is ordinary toothpaste with fluoride added, which can improve the corrosion resistance of teeth and reduce the incidence of caries, but it also has side effects. The boundary between the anti-caries effect of fluoride and its toxicity is very small. National standards stipulate that the amount of soluble fluoride or free fluoride in fluoride toothpaste should be between 0.05% and 0.15%, and the amount of soluble fluoride or free fluoride in children's fluoride toothpaste should be between 0.05% and 0.11%. When choosing fluoride toothpaste, pay attention to whether the fluoride content indicated on the label is within the specified range of national standards. 3. Medicated toothpaste is made by adding medicine to ordinary toothpaste, which can prevent and treat oral diseases. However, the drugs in medicated toothpaste are difficult to take effect in a short period of time, and there are also problems such as drug resistance. |
