How to diagnose early gallbladder cancer

Doctors and patients should pay more attention to diseases related to gallbladder changes. Regular screening of high-risk patients (3-6 months). B-ultrasound is the first choice for early gallbladder cancer. When polypoid changes are found in the gallbladder, dynamic observation should be carried out: for tumors larger than 1 cm and patients over 60 years old, the possibility of malignant transformation should be highly suspected. Even if the tumor is less than 1 cm and the base is wide, the B-ultrasound echo is uneven and patients with cholecystitis/cholelithiasis should also be highly suspected of malignant transformation.

If the tumor grows rapidly in the near future or shows signs of invasiveness to the surrounding mucosa, malignancy should be considered.

For patients with chronic cholecystitis and cholelithiasis, those with aggravated or frequent symptoms and those over 60 years old should be alert to the occurrence of gallbladder cancer. Those with a history of cholecystitis, cholelithiasis or gallbladder polyps, or recent unexplained fatigue, weight loss and digestive symptoms should consider the possibility of gallbladder cancer. Therefore, when the above conditions occur, surgical treatment should be performed as soon as possible.
