Is lung cancer contagious in the elderly?

Lung cancer is a highly malignant tumor. If lung cancer is found, it needs to be treated promptly. Lung cancer can metastasize to different organs and cause corresponding symptoms, which often bring great pain to patients and even threaten their lives. So, is lung cancer contagious? A large number of patients have raised a question. According to many years of medical research at home and abroad, the conclusion is that cancer is not contagious or there is no case to prove that lung cancer is contagious.

So far, it can be said with certainty that cancer is not contagious. In simple terms, contagion means that a disease is transmitted from one person to another through some means. Contagion must meet three conditions: the source of infection, the route of transmission, and the susceptible population. Clinical data prove that cancer patients themselves are not the source of infection.

Cancer cells in the patient's body are a group of abnormal cells that have lost control and grow in an invasive manner. Is lung cancer contagious? It not only destroys adjacent normal tissues and organs, but can also spread to all parts of the body through lymphatic and blood circulation, and absorb a large amount of nutrients, grow and proliferate rapidly, leading to systemic failure of the patient and even death.

Although cancer cells can spread or metastasize everywhere in the patient's body, they will not be transmitted from one person to another like bacteria and viruses. To oneself, other people's cancer cells are a kind of foreign body, and the body destroys cancer cells through its powerful immune rejection ability. Therefore, other people's cancer cells cannot survive in one's body.

From the perspective of infectious diseases, lung cancer is not contagious, but some diseases before lung cancer are contagious, such as tuberculosis, which is a factor that causes lung cancer. Tuberculosis is a contagious disease. So it is too early to say that it is definitely not contagious. For example, the most typical liver cancer is caused by hepatitis, and hepatitis is definitely contagious.
