What are the materials for filling teeth? What materials are used for filling teeth?

Nowadays, many people do not pay attention to oral care. It can be found from a young age that many children are addicted to the sweetness of sugar and eventually damage their teeth. Children who have not changed their teeth have a second chance for their teeth to grow, while children who have changed their teeth can only experience the pain of filling or changing their teeth. The dental filling materials we commonly use are generally divided into three types, which are introduced in detail below. Although these materials are healthy, they are not as good as original teeth. Children must pay attention to protecting their teeth.

What materials are used for tooth fillings?

Composite resin

It is based on acrylic resin and adds particles such as glass and quartz to enhance its performance. It is currently the most commonly used material for filling teeth. The color of composite resin is the same as that of teeth, which is very realistic and beautiful. It has adhesion to tooth tissue and is used less in molars. There are resins specifically used for filling back teeth, which are both beautiful and strong and can completely replace silver-mercury materials. The disadvantage is that a very small number of people are allergic to resin materials and need to use other materials instead. In addition, composite resin filling also requires high operating skills from the doctor.

Amalgam

Silver-mercury alloy is a classic dental filling material that has been used for hundreds of years. It is very wear-resistant and is also a very reliable filling material for back teeth. However, its disadvantages are that the color is not beautiful and it cannot be used to fill front teeth; it has no adhesive properties and causes a large amount of tooth grinding; metal conducts heat and can easily irritate the pulp; and there are concerns that silver mercury vapor may pollute the human body and the environment during operation, so its use is no longer encouraged.

Glass ionomer cement

Glass ionomer cement is formed by the reaction of glass powder and polyacrylic acid to form a polymer containing ionic bonds. Because it can release fluoride ions, it can prevent tooth decay to a certain extent; it has a certain degree of chemical adhesion compared to silver-mercury alloy; and it is less irritating to the pulp. However, its appearance and hardness are not as good as composite resins, so it is currently mostly used for filling children's caries and bonding restorations such as crowns.

Having a filling does not mean that you can go back to your original state and eat cold and hard food as you please. The following points should also be noted after tooth filling.

Things to note after filling a tooth

1. After filling a tooth, it takes a certain amount of time for the filling material to solidify, so you should avoid eating within 2 hours after filling a tooth. 2 hours after filling a tooth, you can eat some light, mild liquid food or semi-liquid food, such as milk, bread, porridge and soup.

2. The appearance of the tooth can be restored after filling, but the chewing performance of the tooth will be damaged to a certain extent. Therefore, it is not advisable to chew hard food after filling, and the side of the tooth should not be used for chewing in the early stage after filling;

3. If the patient has a large dental cavity, a crown repair is required to protect the tooth and prevent the filling material from falling off;

4. It is normal to have slight pain and discomfort after filling a tooth, and you will get used to it after a period of time. If the pain does not get relieved but worsens after filling a tooth, you should ask the attending physician to make further adjustments and repairs in time;

5. Although tooth decay can be controlled after filling, it can still occur if you do not pay attention to oral hygiene.
