Nursing methods for total laryngectomy of laryngeal cancer

Nursing methods for total laryngectomy of laryngeal cancer

Laryngeal cancer is a common malignant tumor in otolaryngology. Some patients need radical total laryngectomy during treatment. Postoperative care of patients needs to be strengthened. Postoperative care is an effective way to prevent complications and improve the quality of life of patients. The nursing methods are as follows:

1. Bleeding: The main cause of postoperative bleeding is improper surgical operation, usually because the incision is not sutured properly. If there is a small amount of blood in the patient's trachea, it can be directly sucked out or coughed out; if the wound continues to bleed, a bandage can be used to apply pressure to stop the bleeding; if the bleeding does not stop and the amount is large, the doctor should be informed for treatment.

2. Saliva leakage: The saliva swallowed by the patient may leak out due to loose suture of the wound. At this time, apply pressure with a bandage and continue nasogastric feeding. It will usually heal. If a lot of leakage occurs, seek medical attention.

3. Wound infection: This is a problem that almost all patients who have undergone surgery need to face, because surgical wounds are very prone to infection. It is normal for laryngeal cancer patients to have redness and swelling of the skin around the trachea after surgery, which may disappear on its own. If there is obvious inflammation in the wound, drug treatment should be started immediately.

4. Pulmonary complications: Pulmonary complications mostly refer to lung infections. In addition to taking antibiotics as prescribed by the doctor, patients should also regularly suction out sputum in the trachea.

5. Other care: As the patient's wound heals, the patient should be assisted in removing stitches and various tubes.
