Can patients be diagnosed with colon cancer by colonoscopy?

The colonoscope is mainly composed of three parts: a camera, a conductive fiber, and a display screen. It is inserted into the large intestine through the anus to observe the entire intestinal condition in a retrograde manner. The colonoscope can not only clearly detect intestinal lesions, but also directly remove and detect intestinal lesions through endoscopic resection to see whether they are benign or cancerous. It is an irreplaceable main means of early prevention of colon cancer.

For high-risk groups, we recommend that they go to the hospital regularly for colonoscopy even if they have no symptoms, and have a colonoscopy once every 1 to 2 years. This will help detect precancerous lesions - colorectal adenomas and early cancers, so that patients can receive timely treatment.

For the general population without a family history of colorectal cancer, we recommend starting colorectal cancer screening at the age of 40-50, and choosing the time for the next follow-up examination based on the results of the first examination. If polyps are found, a follow-up examination is required within the first few years after removal. If there are no abnormalities in the examination, an examination is generally conducted every 3-5 years.

As the poster for Colon Cancer Awareness Month in the United States says - no one wants to see this, except your doctor. People are always shy about diseases, often avoiding discussions of such topics due to unlucky sayings, and have very little knowledge of various diseases. However, it is also the "disease blindness" of a large number of people that makes many minor diseases eventually evolve into incurable malignant diseases, especially cancer. Moreover, many patients with colon cancer have no symptoms in the early stages of the disease, and once discovered, they are mostly in the late stages. At this time, the early screening role of colonoscopy is particularly important.
