Can early stage colon cancer be cured?

Can colon cancer be cured in its early stages? I believe that many people are very afraid of cancer. After getting sick, they are very worried about their survival. However, diseases generally have early, middle and late stages. Undoubtedly, the early stage is the best treatment period. So for patients with early colon cancer, can it be cured?

Colorectal cancer is not unpreventable. In fact, colorectal cancer is the easiest disease to self-screen. If it can be detected early, it is also the most curable disease. Colorectal cancer grows very slowly and has a long incubation period. 93% of colorectal cancers originate from adenomas (a precancerous lesion), and it takes 5 to 7 years for adenomas to develop into cancer. American studies have shown that annual fecal occult blood tests can reduce the mortality rate of colorectal cancer by 33%. Although colorectal cancer is preventable and curable, in my country, more than 80% of patients have already developed to the middle and late stages when they are diagnosed, and the early diagnosis rate is only 10-15%. Domestic surveys show that the survival rate after surgery for early colorectal cancer is more than 90-95%, while it is only 5% in the late stage.

For patients with early-stage colorectal cancer, surgery is generally used for treatment, and of course there are certain indications. If the tumor is located more than 6 cm from the anus and there is no obvious fixation or metastasis, and the upper early-stage colon cancer is more than 12 cm from the anal verge, low abdominal resection and extraperitoneal primary anastomosis can be performed. This operation is less invasive and has a general cure rate. For patients who undergo a combined abdominal perineal resection, a permanent colostomy, i.e. an artificial anus, will be made in the abdomen. This operation removes the tumor more thoroughly and has a relatively high cure rate.
