Can colon cancer cause ulcers?

Can colon cancer cause ulcers?

For example, ulcerative colitis and Japanese schistosomiasis cause repeated destruction and repair of the intestinal mucosa, leading to cancer. About 3% of patients with chronic ulcerative colitis eventually develop cancer. This is far higher than the incidence in areas with a high incidence of colon cancer. Patients with a long course of disease have a greater chance of developing cancer. The rate is 20% for patients with more than 20 years, and 40% for patients with more than 30 years. The mechanism of cancer is still unclear. Most people believe that in the process of chronic ulcerative colitis, repeated tissue destruction and repair may lead to intestinal epithelial hyperplasia, adenoma, and finally cancer.

2: Colon adenoma cancer

In particular, the canceration rate of patients with familial adenomas is as high as 67%. The larger the adenoma, the higher the canceration rate. The canceration rate of adenoma with a diameter of less than 1 cm is 7.3%, 1-2 cm is 32.1%, and 2 cm or more can reach 58.1%. Due to the different tissue types of adenomas, the canceration rate is also different. Villous adenoma is larger than tubular adenoma. Villous adenoma is larger than tubular adenoma. Among these three types, the canceration rate of tubular adenoma is relatively low, but its occurrence rate accounts for the vast majority. 75% are tubular adenomas, and villous adenomas only account for 9%. Therefore, tubular adenomas of precancerous lesions have very important clinical significance. The invasive canceration rate of pedunculated adenomas is 4.5%, while the canceration rate of basal adenomas is 10.2%. The location of the adenoma also has a certain relationship with canceration, with the left colon being higher than the right colon. The canceration rate of female adenomas is higher than that of males, and the reason is still unclear.

3: Diet and carcinogens

Fatty meat and a low-residue diet change the bacterial composition, increase bile acid and bile salts, which are broken down by anaerobic bacteria in the intestines into unsaturated polycyclic hydrocarbons and methylcholanthrene. In the case of constipation, the contact time between carcinogens and intestinal mucosa is prolonged, increasing the carcinogenic effect.

4. Genetic factors

Familial colon polyps are obviously inherited. It is generally believed that the rate of canceration is very high, and it will become malignant in the early years (10 to 20 years). Chronic ulcerative colitis is also a familial disease. Among patients with long-term chronic disease, especially young patients, the rate of canceration is quite high. Genetic factors may be a tendency to develop cancer. In addition to genetic susceptibility, there must be a number of acquired stimulating factors to cause cancer.

What are the common types of colon cancer?

Type 1: Chronic perforated colon fistula

The invasive growth of colon cancer causes the surrounding tissues and adjacent organs to be involved and adhere to the primary cancer, causing the primary cancer focus to necrotize and fall off. When perforated, it penetrates the adjacent involved organs and forms various types of colon fistulas.

Type 2: Acute perforation peritonitis

Acute perforation is often accompanied by varying degrees of low intestinal obstruction, with prodromal symptoms such as abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and cessation of defecation. It is connected to the abdominal cavity, with a large fissure, and a large amount of colon contents flows into the abdominal cavity, causing acute diffuse peritonitis.

Type 3: Subacute perforation abscess

Subacute perforation often occurs at the site of the primary cancer without colon obstruction. Because the perforation is small, the pressure in the intestinal cavity is not high, the amount of colon fluid flowing into the abdominal cavity is small and slow, and the surrounding tissues adhere to form a local encapsulated abscess or inflammatory mass.

What are the early symptoms of colon cancer?

1. Symptoms of abdominal distension, discomfort, and indigestion may occur, followed by changes in bowel habits, such as increased bowel movements, diarrhea or constipation, and abdominal pain before defecation. Later, there may be mucus in the stool or mucus-purulent blood in the stool, which is the earliest symptom of colon cancer.

2. Manifestations of intestinal obstruction: Symptoms of incomplete or complete low-position intestinal obstruction, such as abdominal distension, abdominal pain (distension or colic), constipation or constipation. Physical examination shows abdominal distension, intestinal type, local tenderness, and strong bowel sounds.

3. Symptoms of poisoning: Due to blood loss and toxin absorption caused by tumor ulceration, patients may often experience anemia, low fever, fatigue, weight loss, edema, etc., especially anemia and weight loss.

4. Patients with colon cancer will have abdominal masses: Since the incidence of the disease is highest in middle-aged and older people, people over middle age should be vigilant when they have abdominal masses and consider the possibility of colon cancer.
