Is smoking dangerous for lung cancer?

A medical survey found that 80% of lung cancer is related to smoking. Long-term smokers have a high chance of developing lung cancer, so is the risk of lung cancer from smoking high? Epidemiological surveys require large samples, and the number of people a person can come into contact with is limited. Only 10 out of 100 smokers you know have cancer, so you cannot simply assume that the incidence of lung cancer is 10%. You need to count countless people to get an accurate conclusion.

1. Data on smoking and lung cancer:

◇The incidence of various cancers in smokers is 7-11 times higher than that in non-smokers, and lung cancer is more closely related to smoking.

◇The risk of lung cancer for smokers is 13 times that of non-smokers.

◇If you smoke more than 35 cigarettes a day, the risk increases to 45 times.

◇Statistics show that the more you smoke every day, the younger you start smoking, the longer you smoke, and the higher the tar content of tobacco, the greater the risk of cancer.

◇The incidence rate of lung cancer among smokers who smoke more than 25 cigarettes a day is 250/100,000.

2. Why do some people who smoke for a long time not get lung cancer?

Why do some people smoke all day but never get lung cancer? This is related to different physical constitutions. The carcinogens in smoke that cause lung cancer are benzopyrene, which must be processed by a substance called alkylase in the human body to produce a carcinogenic effect. People with high activity of this enzyme are more likely to get cancer, while those with low activity are less likely to get cancer.

3. Comprehensive pathogenic factors of lung cancer:

Why do non-smokers also die from lung cancer? Although smoking is the main cause of lung cancer, it is not the only cause. There are at least other related factors: occupational carcinogens, air pollution, ionizing radiation, dietary factors, viral infections, fungal toxins, endocrine disorders, family heredity, etc. The occurrence of lung cancer is the result of the combined action of multiple factors.
