What are the sequelae of colorectal cancer

What are the sequelae of colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer is a common malignant tumor disease with strong harmfulness. Especially in the late stage, although it has been treated, it may still leave sequelae. If it is not properly cared for, it is likely to cause five major sequelae.

First: intraoperative bleeding. Bleeding is easy to occur during surgery due to large tumors or extensive adhesions, but it can be avoided by careful operation.

Second: Postoperative intestinal obstruction. The patient will experience abdominal pain, bloating, vomiting without defecation or flatulence, etc. This is related to intestinal adhesion and anastomotic stenosis.

Third: Postoperative infection. Because the large intestine contains a large number of bacteria, the infection rate of colorectal surgery is relatively high. If there is not sufficient preoperative preparation, the infection rate after emergency surgery will be even higher. The use of antibiotics before and after surgery, and good preoperative intestinal preparation, etc., will greatly reduce the chance of postoperative infection.

Fourth: Urinary retention. Fifty percent of male patients may experience permanent or temporary urination dysfunction after surgery. A urinary catheter can be placed to perform urination training and control urinary tract infection. Most patients can return to normal within 4 weeks after surgery.

Fifth: Anastomotic fistula, which is caused by blood circulation disorder or excessive tension at the anastomotic site. Smaller anastomotic sites can heal on their own by controlling infection and local drainage.

Through the above introduction, I believe everyone has some understanding of the postoperative sequelae of colorectal cancer. I hope it will help patients and achieve active prevention.
