What to eat for nasopharyngeal carcinoma radiotherapy? Is it effective?

Diet after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal cancer is very important, which can help patients restore their energy and health. At the same time, effective drugs can also help with treatment. So, what should I eat after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal cancer? Is it effective?

The toxic and side effects that occur during and after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma are mainly due to direct damage of the radiation to the skin and mucous membranes, which weakens cell division and proliferation, causing swelling, spasm, and stenosis or blockage of the local microvascular walls, poor blood circulation in local tissues, and resulting in a series of clinical symptoms.

After radiotherapy, patients with dry mouth, unbearable thirst, sore throat, dysphagia and other symptoms caused by oropharyngeal mucosal damage should first pay attention to oral hygiene and rinse their mouths with normal saline or Duobei liquid to improve symptoms. In terms of diet, some foods that nourish yin, moisten dryness and promote body fluid production should be appropriately added, such as sugarcane juice, pear juice, water chestnut juice, watermelon juice, lotus root juice, strawberry juice, orange juice, etc., to ensure comprehensive nutrition and improve adverse reactions after radiotherapy.

After radiotherapy, the skin in the radiation area will shrink and thin, and the soft tissue will fibrosis and capillary dilation may occur. Radiation skin reactions may occur. Therefore, during radiotherapy, the local skin should be kept clean and dry. Sweat should be wiped off because water ionization aggravates skin damage. High-necked or hard-collared clothes should not be worn. The skin in the radiation field should not be scrubbed with soap, rough towels or hot water.

In addition to a proper diet, effective medications should be used to assist in treatment. It is best to use medications under the guidance of a pharmacist so that the best effects can be exerted for treatment.
