Differential diagnosis of skin cancer in modern medicine:

1. The difference between squamous cell carcinoma and keratoacanthoma. The latter is prone to occur on the face and back of the hands, grows fast, and has hemispherical lesions with a central crater-like depression and keratin plugs. When the keratin plugs fall off, they can leave a depressed scar instead of an ulcer. The disease is self-limited, and the pathological features are similar to those of grade 1 squamous cell carcinoma. The pathological examination combined with the clinical difference can distinguish them.

2. The difference between basal tumor and keratoacanthoma: The skin lesions of basal tumor have no keratinization and crater depression, and are prone to ulceration. The different pathological changes of the two help to distinguish them.

3. Differences between basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma The course of basal cell carcinoma is slower than that of squamous cell carcinoma, and it rarely metastasizes. The edge is composed of small nodules with waxy luster and rolled up in a pearly shape, and generally there is no inflammatory reaction. In pathological examination, the contraction gaps produced by basal cell carcinoma in HE-stained sections are characteristic and can be distinguished from squamous cell carcinoma.

4. Other basal cell carcinomas are difficult to diagnose and treatment can be delayed due to their complex clinical manifestations and multiple types. They are sometimes easily confused with seborrheic keratosis, atrophic lichen planus, localized scleroderma, etc., and require histopathological examination for confirmation. Therefore, clinical awareness of this disease should be improved, and histopathological examination should be performed promptly for suspicious lesions.
