The effect of glucose plus baking soda

Glucose and baking soda are both familiar to us, and people nowadays prefer soda water, which is a weak alkaline drink that is very effective in neutralizing stomach acid and strengthening the stomach. The combination of glucose and baking soda is also used in the pig farming industry, where it is injected to treat dehydration in pigs, and the effect is very effective. 1. Glucose (glucose injection and glucose powder)

1. Use of glucose injection

Glucose solutions are divided into three types: isotonic, meso-osmotic and hypertonic solutions. Use symptomatic medication according to the different diseases the pigs suffer from.

1) Isotonic solution: refers to 5% glucose injection, which is a drug for replenishing body fluids and is mainly used to treat dehydration in pigs. After entering the blood circulation, glucose is quickly used, loses its original osmotic properties and supplies the body with water, 300-500 ml per intravenous injection. Other toxic diseases, such as sow tear spots and sow inflammation-induced sepsis, can also be detoxified by infusion of 5% glucose injection or feeding of glucose;

2) Meso-osmotic solution: refers to 10% to 20% glucose injection, which is mainly used for liver protection, detoxification, energy supply for seriously ill, chronically ill and weak pigs and pigs undergoing surgery. 100-200 ml is injected intravenously at a time.

3) Hypertonic solution: refers to 50% glucose injection, which is used as a drug to relieve edema, mainly for cerebral edema and pulmonary edema in pigs; as a blood sugar supplement drug, it is used for hypoglycemia in piglets; 20-100 ml is injected intravenously at a time.

Special Tips

1) When using 5% glucose injection, do not inject too much at one time, because without sodium supplementation, excessive input may cause water intoxication, leading to hypotonic body fluids and tissue cell edema.

2) When using 50% hypertonic glucose injection, it should be used alone and cannot be used in combination with any other injection. High-concentration glucose injection cannot be used for intraperitoneal fluid replacement.

2. Application of glucose powder

1) Detoxification: For mycotoxins, 10% glucose is usually mixed into the feed for 7-10 days. It is better to use Fuzheng Jiedu powder and change the feed.

2) Inducing feeding: During the recovery period after the onset of pig diseases, the pigs have a poor appetite and glucose can be used to induce feeding; sows often have low temperatures, so glucose is also essential;

3) Improve the survival rate of suckling pigs

Feeding newly born piglets with 10% glucose water can not only prevent hypoglycemia caused by congenital malnutrition of piglets and improve their survival rate, but also increase the acid concentration in their gastrointestinal tract, which is beneficial for their digestion.

4) Increase the effect of medication

When medication is mixed into feed and drinking water to treat pig diseases, pigs are often unwilling to eat and drink normally due to the odor of the medicine. If glucose powder is added at the same time to mask the smell of the medicine, it can increase the pigs' feed and water intake, ensuring that the pigs take enough medicine and improving the therapeutic effect.

2. Baking Soda

1. Promote growth

Adding baking soda to pig feed can effectively improve the pig's digestion of feed and increase the pig's weight gain rate. Adding 0.5% baking soda to feed can increase the feed intake of piglets and the daily weight gain by about 10%; the feed consumption of fattening pigs can be reduced by about 10%. The method of adding is to add 0.5% baking soda to pig feed, mix evenly and then feed.

2. Neutralize gastric acid and alkaline urine

Baking soda is a weak alkali that can neutralize stomach acid when taken orally. It is mainly used clinically to treat gastrointestinal catarrhal inflammation and prevent gastric mucosal damage. Baking soda is added to the feed, 3-5 grams for pigs at a time, for two weeks. Pigs at any stage may have white urine. Some pigs form white crystals in the air when using sulfonamide drugs. Baking soda has the effect of alkalizing urine in these cases. In this case, 0.5% baking soda can be added to the feed to prevent metabolites from damaging the kidneys and to accelerate the excretion of weakly acidic drugs.

3. Avoid acidosis

For pigs with diarrhea and dehydration, oral rehydration salts are given. The formula is 2.5 grams of sodium bicarbonate, 3.5 grams of sodium chloride, 1.5 grams of potassium chloride, and 20 grams of glucose. Add 1000 ml of warm water and drink it at will. The medicine can be prepared on the spot to prevent death of pigs caused by dehydration and acidosis due to diarrhea.

4. Reduce heat stress

In the hot summer, adding baking soda to pig feed can help the pigs dissipate heat and cool down. After baking soda enters the pig's body, the carbon dioxide produced by its synthesis is expelled from the body through breathing. When a large amount of carbon dioxide is expelled, a large amount of heat is also expelled along with it, which can prevent heatstroke. Adding 250 mg of baking soda to every kilogram of feed during high temperature seasons can effectively alleviate the adverse effects of heat stress on pigs.

Special tips:

Baking soda is unstable and easily decomposes in a humid environment. It should not be left for a long time and should be prepared before use and mixed evenly. The dosage should be appropriate. The amount added to general feed should be less than 0.5%. Baking soda is an alkaline substance and should be avoided in combination with acidic drugs, including compound sodium chloride, magnesium sulfate, vitamin C, penicillin, oxytetracycline, etc.
