Patients with pancreatic cancer who cannot undergo surgery should choose supportive treatment methods

If pancreatic cancer patients cannot undergo surgery, they should choose supportive therapy, which is as follows:

Pay attention to rest and eating habits

Pancreatic cancer patients need adequate rest and proper nutrition to enhance the body's resistance. Foods should be nutritious, easy to digest, low in residue, and non-irritating. Necessary parenteral nutrition should be given. Patients with pain, diarrhea, etc. should be given symptomatic treatment. Patients with abdominal pain can be given drugs such as atropine to relieve pain. Gastrointestinal smooth muscle calcium ion blockers can be selected to improve nutritional status. For those who are dehydrated due to diarrhea or insufficient intake, fluids should be supplemented to maintain water, electrolyte and acid-base balance. Patients with incomplete intestinal obstruction should fast and undergo gastrointestinal decompression.

Control pain and improve cachexia

Administer medication according to the WHO three-step pain control principle. During medication, pay attention to timely handling of adverse reactions of oral analgesics, such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, headache, etc. Use medroxyprogesterone or megestrol to improve appetite, pay attention to nutritional support, and promptly detect and correct liver and kidney dysfunction and water and electrolyte disorders. Patients with nutrient absorption disorders should be given an elemental diet, and patients who cannot eat can be given parenteral nutritional support treatment.

Emotional support

Alleviate patients' special anxiety, tension, fear and other negative emotions and serious psychological disorders caused by tumor diseases. Supportive treatment for special patients, such as elderly patients, children, and patients with other important organ diseases and underlying diseases, such as control and treatment of diabetes, coronary heart disease, and essential hypertension. Palliative care and hospice care for patients with advanced tumors, etc.
