Brain cancer can be divided into two categories: primary brain cancer and metastatic brain cancer

Abnormal proliferation of cells in the brain is generally called brain tumors, and malignant brain tumors are called brain cancer. Brain cancer can grow and spread rapidly, occupying the living space, blood supply and nutrients of healthy cells, causing patients to experience a series of clinical symptoms.

Generally speaking, brain cancer can be divided into two types: primary brain cancer and metastatic brain cancer.

Primary brain cancer

The brain is made up of many different types of cells, and a brain tumor forms when one type of cell changes from its normal characteristics. Once this happens, the cell grows and multiplies in an abnormal way and grows into a mass or tumor.

Cancers that form from brain cells that change and grow in this abnormal way are called primary brain cancers because they originate from the brain tissue itself. The most common primary brain tumors can include gliomas, meningiomas, pituitary adenomas, acoustic neuromas, and primitive neuroectodermal tumors (medulloblastomas). Gliomas can include astrocytomas, oligodendrogliomas, ependymomas, and choroid plexus papilloma. Most of these brain tumors are named according to their origin site or origin cell.

Metastatic brain cancer

Metastatic brain cancer is caused by the spread of cancer cells from other parts of the body to the brain. The process of cancer cells from other parts of the body to brain cells is called metastasis. About 25% of tumors in other parts of the body can metastasize to the brain and cause metastatic brain cancer.
