Bone pain in tumor patients may be caused by bone cancer

Eight years ago, Ms. Zhang had radical surgery for breast cancer. After recovering from financial difficulties, Ms. Zhang started her own business. Over the past eight years, her business has grown bigger and bigger, and Ms. Zhang has become busier and busier. Recently, she has been feeling pain in her waist and legs, and it has become more and more severe. Due to the busy business of the company, she has not been to the hospital for treatment.

Just a month ago, Ms. Zhang suddenly had severe pain in her waist and legs and could not move. She had to go to the local hospital for treatment and was diagnosed with lumbar disc herniation. However, after various rehabilitation treatments such as hot compresses and physical therapy, the pain was still not relieved. Accompanied by her family, Ms. Zhang was transferred to a tertiary hospital. After many examinations, it was discovered that Ms. Zhang was suffering from bone cancer. Given that Ms. Zhang had a history of breast cancer, the tumor marker (CA153) was significantly increased. Bone scans showed abnormal concentrations in the lumbar spine and iliac bones. Bone puncture pathology showed metastatic adenocarcinoma, which was derived from the breast.

Bone metastasis is the most common complication in the development of tumors, especially in patients with advanced prostate cancer or breast cancer, about 70% of whom have bone metastasis, and the main symptom is bone pain. About 15% to 30% of patients with malignant tumors have bone metastasis accompanied by severe pain, pathological fractures, hypercalcemia and neurogenic compression syndrome. However, there are misunderstandings in the diagnosis and treatment of bone metastasis in clinical practice, that is, many patients and doctors do not associate bone pain with tumors, resulting in delayed treatment.
