What treatments are used after gastric cancer relapses

One quarter of the causes of death in my country are cancer, one quarter of which are gastric cancer. About half of the deaths from digestive system malignancies are caused by gastric cancer. Preventing recurrence is the key to improving the survival rate of gastric cancer patients.

The best treatment for gastric cancer recurrence is another surgery, but before confirming the surgery, we must pay attention to preoperative imaging evaluation to improve the resection rate.

1. Palliative or tumor reduction surgery. For patients who have lost the chance of radical cure and have complications, palliative disease or partial resection of metastatic tumors and short-circuit surgery can be performed to improve the quality of life or even create conditions for subsequent treatment.

2. Radical resection. Radical resection has a good prognosis. For recurrent lesions limited to the anastomosis and residual stomach, the patient must be in good physical condition and should strive for radical resection. If another operation is possible, radical surgery basically requires complete resection of the residual stomach. On the premise of seeking a reliable and safe resection margin, the scope of surgical resection can be appropriately expanded, and the surrounding lymph nodes can be cleared.

3. Treatment of liver metastasis. For simple liver metastasis cases, the previous surgical principles are basically the same as those for initial liver metastasis cases, that is, single or multiple confined to one lobe or one segment should be surgically removed. For recurrence of gastric remnant combined with liver metastasis, the treatment principles are the same, that is, resection of liver metastasis can be considered after resection of gastric remnant. In addition, when recurrent gastric cancer patients have liver metastasis, gamma knife radiotherapy can also be selected according to the patient's condition.
