How to deal with anxiety in patients with brain cancer

In recent years, the incidence of brain cancer has gradually increased, ranking 11th among all tumors. Patients with brain cancer often experience various negative psychological symptoms after surgery, and anxiety is a typical symptom. Family members and medical staff should provide relevant care for patients with different anxieties to promote their normal recuperation.

1. Anxiety caused by pain

In the early stage of brain cancer surgery, the wound may be painful for a certain period of time, and some brain cancer patients have difficulty in limb movement or paralysis after surgery, and incision pain and other discomforts can increase anxiety. Therefore, helping patients relieve pain after surgery is an important means to reduce anxiety. Communicate with patients in a timely manner, listen to their feelings, divert their attention appropriately, and teach them relaxation techniques to relieve pain.

2. Anxiety caused by medical expenses

The treatment of brain cancer requires huge medical expenses. Patients with poor economic incomes have great anxiety due to the expensive treatment costs after surgery. They try their best to borrow money everywhere. The heavy family burden can increase anxiety and self-blame. With the reform of the medical and health system and the popularization of medical insurance, patients' medical expenses can be partially reimbursed, and their families can also seek help from various social charities. Hospitals should always put the interests of patients first and choose the most economical drugs suitable for patients according to their economic income.

3. Anxiety caused by not adapting to image changes

Brain cancer surgery requires patients to shave their heads, bandage their heads, place drainage tubes in their heads, have difficulty in physical activity, and have to urinate and defecate in bed. These changes in physical appearance are difficult for patients to accept and adapt to, and they may become anxious. Family members should patiently guide patients, explain in gentle language that hair grows very fast and can cover the wound a few months after surgery without affecting appearance; assist patients with daily bed activities, avoid lying in a fixed position, and tell patients that changes in appearance can be improved or restored, eliminating their concerns.
