Pay attention to skin care before and after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Radiotherapy is a commonly used treatment method for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, but it can cause a variety of side effects and damage to patients. For example, the skin in the radiation area will be affected to varying degrees after treatment. Patients should take it seriously and provide relevant care.

The skin in the radiotherapy area of nasopharyngeal carcinoma often shows a series of radiation skin reactions including skin atrophy, thinning, soft tissue fibrosis, capillary dilation and other symptoms. Therefore, good skin care should be done during radiotherapy.

First of all, the local skin should be kept clean and dry, and sweat should be wiped off in time. Before chemotherapy, make sure the irradiation area is dry, because water ionization will aggravate skin damage. The irradiation field should not be scrubbed with soap or rough towels.

At the same time, you should avoid wearing high-necked or stiff-collared clothes. When going out, you should avoid direct sunlight to prevent local skin peeling. If peeling occurs, do not tear or scratch it with your hands. You can sprinkle 1% borneol talcum powder on the affected area.

For patients who develop moist skin reactions caused by radiation, apply rescue oil to the affected area 4 times a day. Keep the exposed area clean to prevent infection.

In addition, the radiation field markings should be kept clear and not be altered without permission to avoid unnecessary damage. Patients should also pay attention to rest, combine work and rest, eat a balanced diet, eat more vegetables and fruits, and eat less salty, smoked, grilled, and pickled products.
