Age characteristics of patients with esophageal cancer

Age characteristics of patients with esophageal cancer

my country is a country with a high incidence of esophageal cancer, and the mortality rate caused by esophageal cancer ranks fourth among cancer deaths. The incidence and mortality rates of esophageal cancer vary greatly depending on the age of the patient.

Generally speaking, the incidence of esophageal cancer increases with age. About 80% of esophageal cancer patients develop the disease after the age of 50, and the incidence and mortality rates peak in the age group of 50 to 70 years old. Esophageal cancer patients in this age group account for more than 60% of all cases, and esophageal cancer patients over 70 years old account for 28%. Depending on the classification method, the mortality rate of esophageal cancer will also show different characteristics.

1. Statistics by gender

Statistics on the mortality rate of esophageal cancer patients by gender show that the mortality rate of esophageal cancer patients in the age group of 35 to 39 years old increases significantly, and regardless of the level of esophageal cancer mortality rate, the mortality rate of male esophageal cancer patients is higher than that of female esophageal cancer patients.

2. According to the incidence rate

Statistics on the age of death of people in areas with high and low incidence of esophageal cancer show that the age of esophageal cancer patients in high-incidence areas with a mortality rate of more than 128/100,000 is about 10 years earlier than that in low-incidence areas with a mortality rate of 0 to 8/100,000. This suggests that there may be stronger carcinogens in high-incidence areas.

Studies have shown that the age characteristics of esophageal cancer incidence and mortality may be related to carcinogens or the accumulation of carcinogen effects.
