Overview of chemotherapy for cervical cancer

My mother has had cervical cancer for more than a year. She underwent surgery after the discovery. She has been recovering well since the surgery and her condition has improved a lot. However, she recently felt unwell and went to the hospital for a check-up, and found that the cancer had relapsed. Some people say that she should have surgery as soon as possible, but I think that would be too harmful to her body and I am afraid that my mother cannot bear it. Others say that there is no need for treatment now and it cannot be cured. I would like to choose chemotherapy, but I don’t know if it is suitable for my mother’s situation. Are there any contraindications?

Chemotherapy is a systemic treatment method. For patients with advanced cervical cancer and recurrent patients, chemotherapy or its combination with surgery and radiotherapy can achieve good therapeutic effects and greatly improve the patients' quality of life.

Indications for chemotherapy mainly include:

1. Patients with advanced cervical cancer who cannot tolerate surgical treatment, especially those with extensive systemic metastasis;

2. Patients with new metastatic lesions after surgery or radiotherapy or local recurrence after surgery;

3. Patients with local giant tumors who require preoperative chemotherapy.

If the patient is in poor general condition, emaciated, exhausted, has severe dysfunction of important organs, or has bone marrow regeneration disorder or cachexia, chemotherapy is not suitable.

In short, the patient must undergo a comprehensive examination before using chemotherapy, and the specific chemotherapy plan should be decided based on the patient's condition. If chemotherapy is not suitable, other effective measures should be taken in a timely manner.
