What are the clinical symptoms of cerebral hemisphere tumors

Cerebral hemisphere tumor is a very threatening brain tumor, which mainly occurs in the area supplied by the middle cerebral artery, most commonly in the frontal lobe, followed by the parietal lobe, temporal lobe and occipital lobe. It can also affect both lobes at the same time. When the tumor continues to grow and compresses the brain tissue, it is very likely to cause brain herniation or even death.

Clinically, mental symptoms, sensory disturbances, progressive motor dysfunction, epileptic seizures, visual field changes, etc. may occur after obstruction of cerebrospinal fluid circulation pathways and obstruction of venous return.

Mental symptoms: The mental symptoms of cerebral hemisphere tumors mainly include slow reaction, dullness, indifferent expression, memory loss, and loss of self-awareness and judgment in severe cases.

Sensory impairment: Cerebral hemisphere tumors can also manifest as sensory impairment, with patients experiencing impairments in their senses of position, shape, material, entity, etc.

Progressive movement dysfunction: Progressive movement dysfunction is mainly manifested as weakness, paralysis, increased muscle tone, hyperreflexia, etc. of one or more limbs.

Epileptic seizures: Epilepsy often occurs in people with frontal lobe tumors, and there are often precursors such as hallucinations and dizziness before the seizure.

Visual field changes: Tumors deep in the temporal lobe and occipital lobe affect the optic nerve fibers, which may cause visual field defects, homonymous hemianopsia, etc.

In addition, patients with cerebral hemisphere tumors may also have symptoms such as aphasia, weakness or paralysis of the half of the body or a single limb contralateral to the tumor, and positive pathological signs.
