Extrapulmonary manifestations caused by non-lung cancer metastasis

Extrapulmonary manifestations caused by non-lung cancer metastasis are obviously not caused by lung cancer metastasis, but by lung cancer acting on other systems, including endocrine system, neuromuscular system, blood system and vascular abnormalities, also known as paraneoplastic syndrome, with the following manifestations:

1. Hypertrophic pulmonary osteoarthropathy

Hypertrophic pulmonary osteoarthropathy often occurs in the distal long bones of the upper and lower limbs of patients with lung cancer, manifesting as clubbing of the fingers (toes), with the characteristics of rapid onset, fingertip pain, and redness surrounding the nail bed. It bleeds as lung cancer progresses. After lung cancer is removed, the symptoms are alleviated, but they will reappear when lung cancer recurs.

2. Secretion of gonadotropin

Excessive secretion of gonadotropin can lead to male breast development.

3. Secretion of antidiuretic hormone

Lung cancer causes excessive secretion of antidiuretic hormone, which can cause dilutional hyponatremia. Patients will show symptoms of water intoxication such as poor appetite, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and fatigue.

4. Neuromuscular syndrome

The occurrence of neuromuscular syndrome has nothing to do with the type and metastasis of lung cancer. It may appear at the same time as lung cancer or before lung cancer, and manifest as cerebellar cortical lesions, peripheral neuropathy, myasthenia gravis, etc.

5. Hypercalcemia

Hypercalcemia is common in squamous cell lung cancer. Patients often experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, thirst, polyuria, and mental confusion. It is relieved after lung cancer resection and reappears when lung cancer recurs.
