Colonoscopy is the gold standard for diagnosing colorectal cancer

If colorectal cancer can be detected early, 90% of the disease can be cured. Although the early symptoms of colorectal cancer are not very obvious, compared with other cancers, colorectal cancer actually has more obvious precancerous lesions - colorectal adenomas and polyps. Colonoscopy can detect these benign tumors as early as possible and remove them. As the gold standard for colorectal cancer diagnosis, accurate diagnosis of cancer and timely treatment can reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.

Requirements for colonoscopy: It is recommended to eat a semi-liquid diet with no or little residue three days before the examination, and do not eat vegetables or fruits. If intestinal polyps are suspected, patients who are preparing for electroresection should not eat milk or dairy products. During the entire colonoscopy process, the patient only needs to lie on the left side with both knees bent.

How to use colonoscopy: Use a flexible fiber tube about 140cm long with a light source and a micro-electronic camera at the end, slowly insert it into the colon from the anus to check for lesions, tumors or ulcers in the colon. If necessary, tissue examination or colon polypectomy can be performed. The doctor slowly inserts the colonoscope from the anus and sequentially observes the intestinal cavity for lesions. The patient may feel abdominal distension and the urge to defecate. At this time, you should take a deep breath to relax yourself. The whole examination process takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

Compared with other cancers, colorectal cancer has a high survival rate. If it is discovered in the first stage and given timely and standardized treatment, 90% of patients can achieve clinical cure. Therefore, as long as we can perform colonoscopy regularly, most lesions will be revealed.
