Gastric cancer favors people from Northeast China

Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in the world. In my country, the mortality rate of gastric cancer accounts for 23% of the mortality rate of all malignant tumors, ranking first among all types of cancer deaths, and its mortality rate is still increasing year by year.

Heavy smoking, heavy drinking, and large meat consumption are the characteristics of the Northeastern folk customs, and are also the regional characteristics that the Northeastern people have always admired and are proud of. However, epidemiological surveys on gastric cancer show that smoking, drinking white wine, and a history of chronic gastric diseases are the main risk factors for gastric cancer in the Northeast.

Previous studies have shown that factors such as a high-salt diet, low intake of fresh vegetables and fruits, and a history of chronic stomach diseases are closely related to gastric cancer. Eating more garlic-based foods, soy and dairy products has a certain protective effect, while the link between smoking and drinking and gastric cancer is not obvious, and only slightly increases the relative risk of gastric cancer.

Studies have found that after adjusting for confounding factors, smoking can increase the risk of gastric cancer by 48%. The longer the smoking period, the greater the daily smoking volume, and the younger the age of starting smoking, the higher the risk of gastric cancer. Drinking alcohol increases the risk of gastric cancer by 82%, and drinking liquor has the most obvious effect. People with a history of chronic gastric disease have a significantly increased risk of gastric cancer, and the longer the disease period, the greater the risk.

Clinical studies have confirmed that the evolution from a normal stomach to gastric cancer often takes a long time. Generally, the rapid type of gastric cancer takes 7 to 8 years to develop, while the common type takes 20 to 22 years. It takes about 3 to 5 years for early gastric cancer to evolve into mid- and late-stage gastric cancer. Therefore, as long as people pay enough attention, they have enough time to prevent the occurrence of gastric cancer.
