Middle-aged men are more susceptible to stomach cancer

Gastric cancer is one of the common malignant tumors in my country, and its incidence rate increases with age. The incidence rate of gastric cancer in men is much higher than that in women. According to research, middle-aged men are the mainstream group of gastric diseases. In addition to factors such as smoking and drinking, the study also found that estrogen has a protective effect on the stomach. Women who receive hormone replacement therapy have a 48% lower incidence of gastric adenocarcinoma, of which the risk of non-cardia gastric adenocarcinoma is reduced by 66%, while the risk of cardiac gastric adenocarcinoma is reduced by 32%.

The causes of gastric cancer are as follows: First, excessive hunger and overeating, excessive smoking and drinking, and irregular life are the main reasons for the decline of gastric function in middle-aged men. Secondly, middle-aged men have intense work and relatively high pressure in life. These repeated adverse stimulations to the cerebral cortex can easily promote gastric lesions. Thirdly, most middle-aged men suffer from gastric diseases to varying degrees, especially gastric ulcers. Diseases such as gastric polyps, gastric ulcers, chronic atrophic gastritis and pernicious anemia may develop into gastric cancer.

Early gastric cancer has no characteristic symptoms, and is often manifested as upper abdominal pain, abdominal distension, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, etc. Since these symptoms are not unique to early gastric cancer, it is easy to be diagnosed as a common stomach disease, which is the main reason why patients are diagnosed late.

In summary, once persistent stomach discomfort occurs, especially if you have the above-mentioned unhealthy lifestyle, family history of digestive tract cancer, gastric ulcer, gastric polyp, chronic atrophic gastritis, Helicobacter pylori infection and other gastric cancer risk factors, you should go to a regular hospital for a gastroscopy in time. It is recommended that people with gastric cancer risk factors should undergo a gastroscopy once a year after the age of 40 (35 for smokers), which is the most effective way to detect gastric cancer in its early stages.
