Smoking increases risk of bladder cancer

Smoking increases risk of bladder cancer

Smoking is harmful and has no benefits. Every year, 2.5 million people die worldwide and are directly related to smoking. It is well known that smoking has a direct impact on the lungs and can increase the risk of lung cancer. The incidence of lung cancer in people who actively or passively smoke for a long time is more than 10 times higher than that of non-smokers. In fact, smoking can also cause certain harm to the bladder. Experimental studies have shown that there is a significant relationship between smoking and the incidence of bladder cancer. The incidence of bladder cancer in smokers is twice that of non-smokers, and the incidence is related to the daily consumption of cigarettes.

Clinical observations have found that most bladder cancer patients have a long history of heavy smoking, with a daily smoking volume of more than one pack. Carcinogens produced during tobacco combustion act on cells, damaging deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), and normal cells become potential cancer cells. These carcinogens persist for a long time, and potential cancer cells appear and gradually develop into tumors. Tumors have extremely rich blood supply, and cancer cells continue to divide and proliferate, and tumors continue to develop.

The early symptoms of bladder cancer are painless hematuria, meat-washing-water-like urine and no discomfort when urinating. In the early stage, electrosurgical resection can be used to remove the cancerous lesions and preserve bladder function. In the late stage, only total cystectomy and urinary diversion surgery can be performed, which is extremely harmful to the patient. Therefore, tobacco is very harmful and must be avoided.
