Tips on preventing tuberculosis

Tips on preventing tuberculosis

As for disease prevention, the first thing to know is the cause and condition of the disease. The disease can be spread far, especially for those highly contagious diseases. Tuberculosis is highly contagious and has a wide range of transmission channels. Many people have been taught some basic knowledge on how to prevent tuberculosis while in school. So what are some basic knowledge on how to prevent tuberculosis? Below I will introduce to you

1. What is tuberculosis?

Tuberculosis is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculosis can occur in any part of the body, but the most common disease is lung tuberculosis. The main symptoms of tuberculosis are cough, sputum, blood in the sputum, low-grade fever in the afternoon, chest pain, loss of appetite, fatigue and weight loss.

2. The harm of tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease. If not treated in time, it will cause lung damage to you personally, affect your work and life, and in severe cases even endanger your life. It may also infect your relatives and friends. If you have pulmonary tuberculosis and do not complete regular treatment according to the course of treatment, it is very likely to turn into difficult-to-treat drug-resistant tuberculosis.

3. How is tuberculosis spread?

When patients with pulmonary tuberculosis cough, sneeze or talk loudly, they will spread droplets containing tuberculosis bacteria into the air. People around them may be infected if they inhale droplets containing tuberculosis bacteria. Healthy people may become infected by inhaling droplets from someone with infectious tuberculosis. However, most people will not develop the disease after being infected with tuberculosis bacteria, and will only develop the disease when their body's resistance is low. The probability of people infected with tuberculosis developing tuberculosis in their lifetime is about 10%. People who are infected with TB bacteria but do not become ill cannot infect others.

4. National main free policies

my country provides free chest X-rays and sputum smear tests to patients with suspected tuberculosis symptoms at the first diagnosis or suspected tuberculosis patients, free sputum smear tests to tuberculosis patients who are followed up during treatment, and free main anti-tuberculosis drugs during treatment for patients with active tuberculosis.

The policy implementation unit is in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in each region. If the condition is serious or there are complications that require hospitalization, the patient will enjoy a certain percentage of reimbursement under the Rural Cooperative Medical Insurance policy.

5. How to prevent infection of family and friends

During the infectious period, tuberculosis patients should pay attention to isolating themselves from their families. It is best to have a separate bedroom with sufficient light. If conditions do not permit, sleep in separate beds and at different places to ensure good ventilation. The room where the patient is located can be disinfected with ultraviolet light once a day or every other day for 2 hours each time. Heat-resistant items such as tableware and clothing used by the patient should be boiled and disinfected for 10 to 15 minutes. Clothes used by patients should be washed frequently and exposed to the sun to kill tuberculosis bacteria.

Patients should avoid talking loudly to others, cover their mouths and noses when coughing or sneezing, wrap sputum in paper and burn it, and do not spit anywhere.

Special attention should be paid to protecting children, as most childhood tuberculosis is transmitted by family members.
