Indications and contraindications of gamma knife treatment for liver cancer

My father was recently diagnosed with liver cancer. I heard that the gamma knife treatment of liver cancer is very effective. What are the indications and contraindications of gamma knife treatment of liver cancer?

Gamma Knife is a type of radiotherapy that is accurate, non-invasive, and has a high success rate. Compared with other treatments for liver cancer, it causes less harm to the human body.

Gamma Knife treatment of liver cancer is indicated for:

Liver function is basically normal, and cirrhosis is not obvious;

No obvious cancer thrombus was found in imaging examination;

For a single lesion in the liver with a diameter of less than 5 cm or a large lesion and several small lesions confined to one lobe of the liver, the total volume does not exceed 60% of the liver volume;

Patients with liver cancer without distant metastasis can undergo radical gamma knife treatment.

Contraindications of Gamma Knife for liver cancer treatment:

Relative contraindications:

If there is a large amount of ascites and the ascites is controlled by conservative treatment, Gamma Knife treatment can still be performed;

Jaundice: after jaundice-reducing treatment, if the jaundice disappears or is significantly alleviated, gamma knife treatment can be performed;

Gamma Knife treatment may still be considered for abnormal liver function, such as elevated ALT, albumin below 35g/L, or prolonged prothrombin time, which basically returns to normal after treatment.

Absolute contraindications:

Patients with bleeding tendency;

There is obvious cirrhosis of the liver, hypersplenism, and blood picture below normal;

The general condition is extremely poor, with a KPS score of less than 40 points;

The intrahepatic lesions are large or extensive, accompanied by jaundice, ascites, or multiple metastases;

Patients with hepatic coma.
