TCM classification and treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma

TCM believes that nasopharyngeal cancer is mostly a syndrome of deficiency of the root and excess of the superficial symptoms. The deficiency of the root is mainly qi deficiency, yin deficiency and blood deficiency, while the excess of the superficial symptoms is caused by phlegm turbidity, toxic heat and blood stasis. Therefore, looking at the syndrome differentiation of various schools, the excess syndrome is nothing more than wind-heat, heat toxicity, phlegm heat, phlegm dampness and blood stasis, while the deficiency syndrome is mostly yin deficiency, blood deficiency, qi deficiency, qi and yin deficiency and yin and yang deficiency. According to the pathogenesis, the treatment is usually based on clearing away heat and detoxification, resolving phlegm and removing blood stasis, softening and dispersing nodules, and replenishing qi and nourishing yin.

1. Lung heat congestion type

For the type of lung heat congestion, the heat-clearing and lung-draining method is used, and herbs such as Ligusticum wallichii, Sophora flavescens, Tripterygium wilfordii, Gynura odoratum, Chrysanthemum indica, Honeysuckle, Hedyotis diffusa, Duchesnea sinensis, Houttuynia cordata, Solanum nigrum, Stinking Peony, Herba Lycopodii, Prunella vulgaris, and Radix Isatidis are often used;

2. Phlegm-dampness stagnation type

Phlegm-dampness stagnation type: use the method of removing phlegm and dampness, and often use Pinellia, Cortex Phellodendri, Arisaema, Clam Powder, Poria, Coix Seed, Bombyx Batryticatus, Oyster, Acorus Gramineus, Curcuma, Patchouli and other drugs;

3. Yin deficiency and heat generation type

For the type of heat-generating yin deficiency, the method of nourishing yin and promoting body fluid is used, and herbs such as raw rehmannia root, moutan bark, lithospermum officinale, asparagus cochinchinensis, anemarrhena asphodeloides, pollen, scrophularia ningpoensis, white peony root, and Ligustrum lucidum are often used;

4. Qi and blood deficiency

For the type of deficiency of both Qi and blood, the method of double replenishing Qi and blood is used, and medicines such as Astragalus, Angelica, Codonopsis, Atractylodes, Red Dates, Polygonatum, and Phaseolus are often used.
