Two treatments for early liver cancer

Two treatments for early liver cancer

Female patient, 69 years old, in the early stage of liver cancer, previously had cirrhosis and heart disease. Can liver cancer be cured?

Liver cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in my country. There are two common methods for treating early liver cancer:

1. Liver resection for liver cancer

Liver resection is the main treatment method. As long as the patient's general condition allows (heart, lung, kidney and other organs function well), liver cancer is limited to one lobe or segment of the liver, and it is estimated that the remaining liver function after resection is sufficient to sustain the patient's life, radical resection can be performed. If the cirrhotic liver is still there after resection, the recurrence or recurrence rate of liver cancer is high, and the cirrhosis progresses progressively, complications such as liver decompensation and portal hypertension (upper gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, refractory ascites, etc.) may occur, endangering the patient's life.

2. Liver transplantation

Liver transplantation is currently the only means of curing liver cancer. It can also cure liver cancer, liver cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis B. After liver transplantation, patients can resume normal life and have a higher quality of life. However, liver transplantation is expensive and requires long-term immunosuppressant therapy after surgery. It is suitable for patients with liver cancer lesions confined to the liver, without distant organ metastasis, and other organs in the body that can tolerate the surgery.

Early liver cancer has a certain curability. If patients keep a calm mind and receive timely treatment, they can greatly improve survival and prolong life.
