Type 2 clinical manifestations of brain cancer

Brain cancer is an intracranial tumor, which can be divided into two categories: primary and secondary tumors. Whether primary or secondary, the clinical manifestations of brain cancer are consistent, including increased intracranial pressure and focal symptoms.

1. Symptoms and signs of increased intracranial pressure

Headaches caused by brain cancer are mostly caused by compression symptoms, and the severity of the headaches gradually increases with the progression of the disease. Young children may not have obvious pain symptoms because their cranial sutures have not yet closed. Elderly patients also have pain symptoms that appear later and are milder than those of young people due to brain atrophy, slow reaction, etc.

Vomiting caused by brain cancer has its own characteristics. It is often projectile vomiting. The patient may feel nauseous before vomiting. This is especially serious for tumors in the infratentorial area. It is caused by stimulation of the vomiting center, vestibule, and vagus nerve.

Optic disc edema is an objective sign of increased intracranial pressure. This sign appears early in patients with infratentorial tumors and late in patients with supratentorial tumors. A small number of patients do not show this sign.

2. Focal symptoms and signs

Irritating symptoms Irritating symptoms mainly include epilepsy, pain, muscle twitching, etc.

Paralytic symptoms Paralytic symptoms are the loss of function caused by compression and destruction of normal nerve tissue, manifested as hemiplegia, aphasia, sensory impairment, etc.
