Brief analysis of several common metastatic pathways of gastric cancer

As people's living habits change, the incidence of gastric cancer is gradually increasing, endangering the health of many people. In fact, gastric cancer can metastasize. Here are some common ways for gastric cancer to metastasize .

In general, the common metastatic pathways of gastric cancer are:

1. Direct spread is the most common way of gastric cancer metastasis. Invasive gastric cancer can develop directly into the stomach wall, esophagus or duodenum along the mucosa or serosa. Once the tumor invades the serosa, it is easy to infiltrate the surrounding organs or tissues such as the liver, pancreas, spleen, transverse colon, jejunum, diaphragm, greater omentum and abdominal wall. When cancer cells fall off, they can also be implanted in the abdominal cavity, pelvic cavity, ovary and rectovesical pouch.

2. Lymph node metastasis, accounting for 70% of gastric cancer metastasis. Cancer in the lower part of the stomach often metastasizes to the lymph nodes below the pylorus, below the stomach, and around the celiac artery, while cancer in the upper part often metastasizes to the lymph nodes around the pancreas, around the cardia, and above the stomach. Advanced cancer may metastasize to the lymph nodes around the aorta and above the diaphragm. Since the abdominal lymph nodes are directly connected to the thoracic duct, they can metastasize to the left supraclavicular lymph nodes. This is also a common metastatic route for gastric cancer.

3. Hematogenous metastasis. Cancer cells can be found in the peripheral blood of some patients. They can metastasize to the liver through the portal vein and can reach the lungs, bones, kidneys, brain, meninges, spleen, skin, etc. This is also a common metastasis route for gastric cancer.

The above is an introduction to the common metastatic pathways of gastric cancer. I believe everyone has some understanding of the metastatic pathways of gastric cancer. Once you have gastric cancer, you must go to the hospital for treatment in time to avoid missing the best time for treatment.
