Radiotherapy and chemotherapy care for cardiac cancer

Radiotherapy and chemotherapy care for cardiac cancer

Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are the main methods for treating cardiac cancer and are widely used in clinical practice. However, these treatment methods will produce certain toxic side effects on the body and bring adverse reactions to patients.

Therefore, during radiotherapy or chemotherapy, in addition to the special care provided by professional nursing staff according to the situation, family members, relatives and friends also need to pay attention to the following aspects:

1. Cardiac cancer care: Some chemotherapy drugs have neurotoxic side effects, which can cause numbness of the hands and feet, tremors in the limbs, etc. Some local massages can be performed. Some drugs can cause osteoporosis in patients. When patients get out of bed or walk on slippery surfaces, family members should remind or support them to avoid falls and fractures.

2. Psychological aspects: Family members should understand the patient's condition and psychological state, provide good psychological care, keep abreast of the patient's thoughts, patiently explain the possible reactions to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, eliminate the patient's tension and unnecessary concerns, and make the patient confident in the treatment.

3. Diet: It is better to choose high-calorie, high-protein, high-vitamin, low-fat, and easily digestible foods, and encourage patients to eat small and frequent meals. The diet should be diversified, and the color, aroma, and taste of the food should be used as much as possible to induce the patient to eat. In addition, in view of the symptoms of heat toxicity, damage to yin, and loss of qi caused by radiation, during radiotherapy, you can eat more foods that replenish qi and nourish yin, such as watermelon, pear, peach, black plum, reed root, etc.

4. Local care: Avoid chemotherapy drugs from leaking out of the blood vessels. If this happens, in addition to being treated by specialized nursing staff, family members can apply ice to the local area, avoid hot compresses, and apply external compresses such as Jinhuangsan after 24 hours. Patients undergoing radiotherapy for cardiac cancer should pay attention to the care of the irradiated skin, keep the local skin clean and dry, avoid applying adhesive tape and irritating drugs, avoid irradiating the skin to be stimulated by mechanical substances, and avoid sunlight. If the ulcer has scabs, the scabs cannot be removed by hand.

5. Systemic care: During chemotherapy and radiotherapy, if the white blood cell or platelet count is lower than normal, the number of visitors should be reduced as much as possible, and the ward or home should be disinfected with ultraviolet light to reduce the chance of infection. For patients with thrombocytopenia, local collisions should be avoided as much as possible to reduce the chance of bleeding.

This is all about the nursing care for cardia cancer. I hope the above content can help patients and hope that they can recover soon!
