Precautions after gallbladder stone surgery

Precautions after gallbladder stone surgery

Gallstones are a relatively common disease. If necessary, gallstones require surgical treatment. Patients should pay attention to some matters after the operation, such as a light diet and nutritious food that is conducive to the body's recovery. They should also pay attention to rest, not stay up late, and avoid stress. What are the precautions after gallstone surgery? Let’s take a look at it next.

1. What are the precautions after gallbladder stone surgery?

After patients with gallstones undergo cholecystectomy, most patients do not have special diet or activity requirements because the recovery from cholecystectomy is relatively fast and the trauma is relatively small. However, it is believed that patients who have undergone cholecystectomy in the near future should eat a light diet and gradually transition to a normal diet. Activities should not be too intense, and there is no problem with regular home life. If exercise is required, it is more appropriate to do it 2-3 months after the operation.

2. Pay attention to diet after gallstone surgery

1. Control calories and lose weight

You should eat until you are 70% to 80% full at each meal (especially dinner) to keep your weight within the ideal range. Overweight and obese patients should lose weight.

2. Reduce fat and cholesterol

Pay attention to the reasonable combination of meat and vegetables, and try to reduce the fat and cholesterol content in food. After cholecystectomy, due to the lack of sufficient concentrated bile, excessive intake of fat and cholesterol will cause digestive dysfunction, steatorrhea, and malnutrition. In normal times, you should eat more vegetable oil, avoid animal oil, and try to eat less thick meat broth, thick chicken broth, thick fish broth, etc. Reduce the intake of high-fat nuts, such as peanuts, melon seeds, walnuts, almonds, pistachios, etc. Strictly limit foods high in cholesterol, such as animal offal, egg yolks, squid, sardines, animal brains, fish eggs, crab roe, etc. Eat no more than 4 eggs per week. Avoid overeating or excessive hunger, and try to eat small meals frequently.

3. High-quality protein should be supplemented

Adequate protein is helpful in repairing liver cell damage caused by cholecystitis and cholelithiasis, so you can choose a low-fat, high-quality protein diet mainly composed of fish, shrimp, poultry, tofu and low-oil soy products.

4. Fruits and vegetables keep you healthy

Vegetables and fruits are rich in vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber, which can reduce the formation of cholesterol and the absorption of fat and sugar, thereby improving the patient's metabolic disorders and lowering blood lipids and blood sugar. Daily vegetable intake should be greater than 500 grams, with at least 2 kinds of fruit.

5. Choose more whole grains

Eat more high-fiber foods, including corn, millet, sweet potatoes, oats, buckwheat and other whole grains to promote bile excretion.

6. Quit smoking, drinking and spicy food

Patients who have had their gallbladder removed must quit smoking and drinking, because smoking and drinking will increase the burden on the liver. At the same time, they should eat less spicy and other irritating foods, such as onions, garlic, ginger, chili peppers, pepper, curry, etc.

7. There are methods to cooking

Cooking should be clear as possible. It is best to use methods such as stewing, steaming, and simmering. Avoid frying, grilling, smoking, and half-cooked cooking methods, and use as little seasoning as possible. This is suitable for the changes in bile duct function after surgery and reduces the burden on the digestive system.

3. Notes

Maintain an ideal body weight. Keep exercising. Pay attention to food safety and hygiene, and eat at regular times and in regular amounts.
