Differentiation between leukoplakia and lichen planus

Differentiation between leukoplakia and lichen planus

Leukoplakia and lichen planus are both inflammatory skin diseases. Especially if leukoplakia occurs in a person's mouth, it must be taken seriously because leukoplakia may be an early symptom of cancer. Lichen planus is also a disease that often occurs inside the human oral cavity, so many people cannot tell the difference between leukoplakia and lichen planus. So what is the difference between leukoplakia and lichen planus?

Oral leukoplakia is a relatively common oral disease, which manifests as indelible white patches on the oral mucosa. It is a precancerous change and may also turn into oral squamous cell carcinoma. Its manifestations include simple type, wart-like type, granular type, and ulcerative type. The scientific name of lichen planus in traditional Chinese medicine is purpura, and its incidence rate in my country has been on the rise in recent years. Because the manifestations of lichen planus in skin lesions vary greatly, it is not easy to diagnose because it can be confused with other skin diseases.

Steps/Methods:

1. The pathological characteristics of lichen lesions are flat dorsum of tongue, grayish white with blue color in some parts, and atrophy of lingual papillae. The lesions of oral leukoplakia are small, grayish-white, patchy protrusions on some of the tongue papillae, and the white spots are mostly white or chalky. Moreover, oral leukoplakia may undergo precancerous changes, which is very serious.

2. Oral lichen planus is a common chronic oral mucosal skin disease and is generally not contagious. Oral leukoplakia is not contagious, but the white spots on the oral mucosa are a precancerous lesion with the potential for malignant transformation. So if you don't pay attention, it may become serious.

3. Oral leukoplakia may be caused by heavy smoking, Candida infection, systemic factors, etc., but oral lichen planus is caused by mental stress, immune factors, endocrine factors, infectious factors, etc. Their causes are different, but their severe symptoms are the same.

Note:

1. Don’t smoke. No matter how you smoke, it’s bad for your health. 2. Moderate exercise. Moderate exercise can improve your immunity. 3. Use fresh fruits and vegetables to supplement the vitamins you need.
