Clinical significance of CT examination of ear, nose and throat:

1. For otitis media and mastoiditis, especially when combined with cholesteatoma and bone destruction, its scope and degree can be determined to provide surgical plans.

2. It can clarify the morphology, size, range, invasion and metastasis of adjacent organs of benign and malignant tumors, and make a qualitative diagnosis of certain tumors.

3. It can be used to review tumors and observe treatment efficacy and recurrence.

4. CT is the preferred examination method for laryngeal injuries, which can distinguish hematoma from edema; it can also observe the damage after radiotherapy - necrosis, fibrosis, atrophy, and stenosis of the cavity.

5. CT is helpful in diagnosing congenital ear diseases, especially congenital malformations of the middle ear and inner ear.

CT examination instructions

①Diet: Do not eat or drink for 4 hours before scanning. If you experience symptoms of hypoglycemia such as dizziness and cold sweats due to hunger while waiting for the examination, you can drink sugar water. Do not take metal-containing medications or undergo gastrointestinal contrast one week before the abdominal scan;

②Do not move your body during the scanning process;

③ Iodine contrast may be used during the scan, and those who are allergic to iodine or penicillin should actively inform;

④ Patients do not need to be afraid when they are alone in the examination room during the scan, because the medical staff will closely monitor you in the next room;

⑤ When scanning the head, take off metal objects such as hairpins and earrings, close your eyes, do not look at the red light on the scanning stand, and remove any plasters on the scanning area;

⑥Before the examination, you must bring the examination materials you have done, such as B-ultrasound, X-rays, etc.
