Massage your cervical spine yourself

Massage your cervical spine yourself

The commonly used method for treating cervical spondylosis is massage. It’s just that some people think that massage will not completely eradicate cervical spine diseases. Other treatments may be used. Such as taking medicine or undergoing surgery. However, massage should be a relatively simple and safe method to treat cervical spine diseases. So this is a method that is advocated for use. How to massage your cervical spine by yourself?

1. How to massage the cervical spine

Sit down during massage. Open the thumb and put the other four fingers together, apply force with the base of the thumb, and knead the muscles on both sides of the cervical spinous process from the occipital region downwards until you can touch the upper back with your hand. Knead repeatedly for 3 minutes, then use the same technique to knead the muscles of the affected upper limb and neck, as well as the upper arm and forearm, alternating repeatedly while kneading and kneading. Sometimes you can feel a cord-like substance at the painful area. This is often the site of the lesion and can be kneaded intensively. The technique should be continuous and with slight force. It is best if there is a sore and swollen feeling in the kneaded area. Repeat the technique for about 5 minutes, and you can switch hands.

The Jianjing point is located in the scapula area, at the midpoint of the line connecting the spinous process of the seventh cervical vertebra and the outermost point of the acromion. Use the tip of the middle finger of one hand to press and rub the acupoint repeatedly for about 2 minutes until you feel a local soreness and swelling. Then open the tiger's mouth and press and rub the Fengchi point. Place the thumbs of both hands on the Fengta point in the depression below the occipital protuberance behind the neck, starting with light massage and gradually increasing the pressure, and repeat for about 2 minutes.

2. Causes of cervical spondylosis

Degenerative changes of the cervical spine: With the development of different stages of age, the cervical spine and intervertebral discs may undergo different changes, and the intervertebral discs also undergo corresponding changes. Strain and bad posture: People who keep their head and neck in a single position for a long time, like lying in bed watching TV, reading, using high pillows, sleeping in a sitting position, etc., are prone to cervical bone hyperplasia. Head and neck trauma, wind, cold and dampness factors: Wind, cold and dampness factors in the external environment can reduce the body's tolerance to pain, cause muscle spasms, small blood vessel contraction, slow lymphatic return, soft tissue blood circulation disorders, and then produce aseptic inflammation. Hypoplasia of the cervical vertebrae structure: congenitally small spinal canal, cervical vertebrae degeneration, etc. are the basis for the onset of some cervical spondylosis.

3. Treatment of cervical spondylosis

The key to treating cervical spondylosis is to choose a regular, effective and side-effect-free treatment method. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that cervical spondylosis is caused by wind, cold and dampness. Xiaoduo's treatment of cervical spondylosis aims to dispel wind and cold, promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis. It follows the principle of painlessness in traditional Chinese medicine and treats cervical spondylosis fundamentally. For mild cases, adequate rest and the use of anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs such as indomethacin can alleviate the symptoms, and good therapeutic effects can be achieved by supplementing with acupuncture, physical therapy, etc. To limit neck movement, a collar may be worn. Generally, symptoms can be relieved within 2 weeks to 1 month.
