How many root canals does a tooth have

Root canal treatment of problematic teeth is a relatively feasible and effective method, but how many root canals are there on large teeth? Different types of teeth have different numbers of root canals. Generally, molars have only one root canal, maxillary first premolars have two, and posterior molars have three or four. Of course, different people will have different numbers of root canals, and the difference will not be too big.

1. How many root canals are there in big teeth?

Incisors and premolars usually have one root canal, maxillary first premolars usually have two, and molars usually have 3-4 root canals. The root canals vary for different teeth and different people, but they are generally similar.

2. Can root canal treatment be done for toothache?

When toothache is severe, root canal treatment is needed. If it gets worse at night, it is a typical feature of acute pulpitis, as is the pain from hot or cold stimulation. Root canal treatment was performed to clean the inflamed pulp nerves inside the root canal and apply local medication to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. This is the fastest and most thorough treatment method. As long as you go to a regular dental clinic, no matter how many root canals you have, they will be cleaned.

3. Root canal treatment process

1. Take X-rays to determine the structure of the affected area and the surgical plan.

2. Administer local anesthesia.

3. Drill the tooth and remove the decayed tooth.

4. Open the pulp cavity and remove the necrotic pulp.

5. Use a root canal drill to enlarge the root canal.

6. Rinse the inside of the root canal with a disinfectant (e.g. sodium chlorate solution).

7. Fill the root canal with special materials to ensure it remains sterile for a long time.

8.Fill the holes in the teeth or install crowns.

4. What is a root canal

The hollow structure inside the tooth is called the root canal. It contains the dental nerves and blood vessels, maintaining the nutrition and sensory functions of the teeth. Factors such as tooth decay, tooth trauma, and hidden cracks can easily lead to infection inside the root canal. When inflammatory secretions in the root canal compress the dental nerve, it causes pain. Since teeth are very hard tissues and the root canals are very narrow and cannot expand, the toothache is very severe and neither injections nor medication can solve the problem.
