Normal pulse pressure value

Normal pulse pressure value

Pulse pressure is an indicator that is of great significance to human health. Pulse pressure refers to the difference between the systolic and diastolic blood pressure in your blood vessels. Pulse pressure has a certain normal range. If the pulse pressure is abnormal, it can cause many diseases in the human body, such as hypertension, rheumatic heart disease, bacterial endocarditis, etc. Next, I will introduce you to some relevant knowledge about pulse pressure!

1. Pulse pressure and normal value

Pulse pressure refers to the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The normal range is 30~50mmHg. The critical value is between 20~30mmHg or 50~60mmHg. At this time, if there are concomitant risk factors for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, active treatment should be given.

2. Conditions related to pulse pressure

Increased pulse pressure means that the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure increases (such as systolic pressure increases and diastolic pressure decreases or the increase in systolic pressure is greater than the increase in diastolic pressure, etc.). Increased pulse pressure difference is commonly seen in: aortic valve insufficiency, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, hyperthyroidism, acute heart failure, severe anemia, rheumatic heart disease, syphilitic heart disease, some congenital heart diseases and hypertensive heart disease, bacterial endocarditis, etc. For example, due to atherosclerosis of the aorta and other large arteries, the elasticity and stretchability of the arterial walls are reduced in the elderly, resulting in isolated systolic hypertension, decreased diastolic blood pressure (if the sclerosis affects the peripheral small arteries, the diastolic blood pressure will increase), and an increased pulse pressure difference.

Decreased pulse pressure is common in the following cases: hypotension, pericardial effusion, severe mitral stenosis, severe heart failure, aortic stenosis, severe heart failure, peripheral circulatory failure, shock, as well as obesity, increased blood viscosity, or combined diseases such as diabetes and hyperlipidemia.

Blood pressure fluctuates. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) represent the two extreme values of blood pressure fluctuations. The difference between systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure is called pulse pressure, which reflects the amplitude of the fluctuation in a cardiac cycle.

Some people call PP~>60mmHg (8.0kPa) increased pulse pressure (wide pulse pressure, high pulse pressure). Currently, most people at home and abroad regard pulse pressure difference >63mmHg as the danger limit for the formation of atherosclerosis.

3. Causes of abnormal pulse pressure

It is generally believed that it is caused by atherosclerosis of the aorta and other large arteries, reduced elasticity and stretchability of the arterial walls, and isolated increase in systolic blood pressure. Stiffness of the large arteries causes the reflection of the pressure wave to accelerate, causing the superposition of the reflected wave to advance to the systolic period, resulting in a higher systolic pressure wave. During diastole, the aorta does not have enough elastic recoil to maintain the diastolic pressure, which causes the diastolic pressure to drop and also increases the pulse pressure difference. Common diseases include: primary hypertension, aortic valve insufficiency, aortic sclerosis, hyperthyroidism, severe anemia, rheumatic heart disease, syphilitic heart disease, some congenital heart diseases and hypertensive heart disease, bacterial endocarditis, etc.
