The effect of external application of Glauber's salt

The effect of external application of Glauber's salt

The Chinese medicine of Glauber's salt is generally used for external application, mainly to treat patients with injuries. In fact, when taken internally, the effect of clearing away heat and detoxification is also quite obvious. Glauber's salt has a pungent smell. Its main ingredient is sodium sulfate, which looks like white crystals. Pregnant women should avoid contact with Glauber's salt because it can easily cause miscarriage. So what are the effects of external application of Glauber's salt?

Glauber's salt is salty and cold, and has the effects of moistening the lungs, softening hard masses, purging heat and relieving constipation, clearing away heat and detoxifying, and reducing swelling. Modern medical research has proved that Glauber's salt has antiviral and anti-infection effects, and clinically, external use of Glauber's salt will achieve better therapeutic effects.

Glauber's Salt

1. Treat redness and swelling of the eyes

Put saltpeter powder on tofu and steam it, then use the juice to apply to the eyes.

2. Blepharitis

Steam saltpeter with water, let it stand overnight, and filter. Wash eyes with clear solution. Even if the patient has been ill for a long time, it can be cured.

3. Treat headaches

Take 130 grams each of Glauber's salt and rhubarb, grind them into fine powder, and bottle them for later use. When using, take an appropriate amount of the powder each time, mix it with aged vinegar to make a thin paste, and apply it to the temples (bilaterally). Take 2 to 3 times a day, 1-2 hours each time, for 2 to 3 days in a row. It is suitable for wind-heat headache.

4. Treat local induration after intramuscular injection

Take 100 grams each of rhubarb and Glauber's salt, grind them into fine powder, and bottle them for later use. When using, take an appropriate amount of the powder each time, mix it with vinegar to make a thin paste, apply it to the affected area, cover it with a dressing, and secure it with adhesive tape. Change the dressing once a day and apply it continuously for 3 to 5 days. It can clear away heat, detoxify, disperse stagnation and relieve pain.

5. Scabies nodules

Take 100g of Glauber's salt and dissolve it in warm water, then apply it externally once a day. The nodules will disappear after 20 days.

6. Treat eczema

(1) 30g each of Cnidium monnieri, Sophora flavescens, Kochia scoparia and Dictamni. Select the above medicines, decoct them in water to extract the juice, add 60 grams of Glauber's salt to dissolve it, put it in a basin, and when the temperature is appropriate, use a sterilized gauze dipped in the medicine solution to wipe the affected area, 2-3 times a day, and wipe continuously for 3-5 days to heal. It can clear away heat, detoxify, dispel wind and relieve itching.

(2) Take about 200 grams of Glauber's salt at a time, dissolve it in about 0.5 kilograms of warm water, soak a towel in the liquid, wring it out slightly to make sure there is no water dripping, and apply the wet towel to the affected area. Apply it for 30 minutes each time, two or three times a day, or even for two consecutive days.

7. Treat lacquer sores

A common skin disease caused by contact with lacquer trees, lacquer liquid, lacquerware, or simply smelling the lacquer fumes. It often occurs in exposed parts such as the head, face, and arms, with obvious skin swelling, redness, itching, and stinging, or blisters and erosions, and tends to heal on its own. It is equivalent to contact dermatitis in Western medicine. It is more common in rural areas and is generally treated with anti-allergic or heat-clearing and detoxifying and external application methods. Glauber's salt has been used to treat lacquer sores for decades. Its effect is more obvious than other treatment methods and can usually be cured in one treatment. The specific usage is basically the same as that for acute eczema. If the affected area is large, soaking and washing can also be used.
