Sequelae of gastric resection for weight loss

Sequelae of gastric resection for weight loss

Now losing weight has become a part of people's lives. Whether women or men, they all have requirements for their body shape. Some people lose weight by exercising, some by dieting, and some by having gastric surgery to reduce their food intake, thus achieving the effect of dieting and losing weight. However, gastric resection is a bad method for losing weight and is quite harmful to the body. So, what are the side effects of gastric resection surgery?

1. After gastrectomy, the stomach becomes much smaller. Since the stomach cannot hold more food, the amount of food eaten will decrease. However, it should be noted that after gastrectomy, patients are more likely to feel nausea and vomiting if they consume too much food. The increase in the number of cells in the stomach wall and the increase in the volume of cells in the stomach wall make our stomach bigger. When our organs have completed their development, the total number of gastric wall cells in the entire stomach is fixed and will not increase in the future. Now if we cut off 2/3 of the stomach, only 1/3 of the stomach wall cells will remain. At the same time, the volume of each gastric wall cell is limited. Therefore, the stomach may still grow larger after surgery, but the extent of the expansion will be limited. Moreover, people who have undergone gastrectomy will immediately experience nausea and vomiting if they eat even a little too much.

2. Eating less means taking in less nutrients, so the body absorbs less nutrients. Many people may suffer from malnutrition, especially for growing children. If they must undergo gastrectomy, they must promptly replenish various nutrients, such as vitamins and trace elements, by taking 21 Gold Vitamins, Centrum tablets, etc.

The above introduces two sequelae that are more likely to occur after gastrectomy for weight loss. Therefore, if you are not extremely obese, gastrectomy for weight loss is not recommended.
