The correct way to use eye drops

The correct way to use eye drops

Nowadays, the number of people with myopia is increasing. Myopia is mainly caused by excessive use of eyes and lack of attention to eye protection. If you want to protect your eyes, you should not only pay attention to the proper use of your eyes, but also use eye drops when necessary. Eye drops are also very effective in maintaining eye health. So, what is the correct way to use eye drops?

1. Before use, check the name of the medicine, check the dosage required, make sure the medicine is within the shelf life, and check for any discoloration, odor, turbidity, etc. If the preparation itself is turbid, such as suspensions such as Divac and Flumetol, it should be gently shaken before use to ensure consistent concentration of the drug solution.

2. Be sure to wash your hands before applying eye drops. Direct contact with eyes from dirty hands may cause eye infection.

3. Be careful when applying eye drops. Tilt your head back slightly and use your index finger to pull down the lower eyelid to expose the conjunctival sac. Place the eye drops into the conjunctival sac 1 to 2 cm above the eye. Do not drop the drops directly onto the cornea (the black part of the eye). This may cause the drug to irritate the cornea, leading to increased blinking and increased outflow of the drug, which will reduce the efficacy. It should be noted that eye drops should be dripped in mid-air, and the mouth of the bottle should not touch the eyelashes to prevent contamination.

4. One drop of eye drops at a time is enough. One drop of eye drops contains about 16 microliters, and the conjunctival sac can only store 12 microliters. Putting several drops at a time is just a waste.

5. Pressing the inner corner of the eye after applying the medicine can reduce side effects. Use your middle finger to press the nasolacrimal duct between the inside of the nose and the corner of the eye to prevent it from being absorbed into the mouth. Keep your mouth open when dripping to maintain the posture. Just gently close your eyes for 5 minutes.

6. Do not drip different types of medicine at the same time. The tear cycle will excrete the injected potion within 5 minutes, so it is best to add another potion 5-10 minutes after one potion is applied to ensure that the potion is fully utilized. In addition, if you need to use eye drops and eye ointment at the same time, put the eye drops in first and then apply the eye ointment after 5 minutes.

7. After opening, eye drops should be kept away from light or in a refrigerator. Due to changes in external temperature, bacteria are easily bred. Do not use any medicine that is not used up within one month (except for specially packaged medicines).
