Best temperature for storing red wine

Drinking red wine is a tradition of Westerners, especially in Europe. France is known as the capital of red wine due to its unique climate and professional red wine making technology, and produces a large amount of red wine. Red wine has the function of nourishing the skin, replenishing energy and promoting body metabolism. As red wine was introduced to China, many Chinese people also began to love drinking red wine. But at what temperature should red wine be stored to maintain its best flavor?

1. Temperature

The ideal temperature in a wine cellar is about 10℃-15℃, but the most important thing is that the temperature must be stable over a long period of time, because temperature changes will affect the maturation speed and taste of the wine. If the storage temperature of wine changes drastically several times, it will make the taste rough and less delicate, and it will also affect the owner's control over its aging time. So as long as the temperature can be maintained constant, 5℃-20℃ is actually acceptable. However, a wine cellar that is too cold will slow down the growth of the wine and require a longer wait; conversely, if the temperature is too high, the wine will mature faster and may reduce its delicate and rich flavor. Usually the basement has the best constant temperature effect, and the entrance should be located in the shade to avoid affecting the temperature when entering and exiting. Attention should also be paid to instantaneous temperature changes. If the temperature difference between the wine cellar and the room temperature is too large, sensitive wines may be damaged when the wine is taken out. Therefore, it is best to slightly increase the temperature of the wine cellar or wine cabinet with automatic temperature control in the summer.

(ii) Humidity

A humidity of around 70% is best for storing wine. Too much humidity can easily cause the cork and the wine label (referred to as the wine label) to rot, while too much dryness can easily cause the cork to dry out and lose its elasticity, making it impossible to seal the bottle tightly. However, cooling equipment, such as air conditioners or refrigerators, will reduce humidity, so if the humidity is too low, you can use a basin filled with moist sand or sawdust to improve the humidity in the wine cellar.

(III) Light

It is best not to leave any light in the wine cellar, because light can easily cause the wine to deteriorate, especially fluorescent lamps, halogen lamps and neon lamps, which are most likely to cause the wine to undergo reduction changes and emit a strong and unpleasant odor. Champagne, white wine and wine in colorless glass bottles are most sensitive to light and require special care. It is best to place them on the bottom floor with less light. Some wine cabinets are designed with glass doors, but it is best to choose glass that is UV-proof.

(IV) Ventilation

Wine will absorb the surrounding smell into the bottle like a sponge. It is best to have some ventilation in the wine cellar to prevent the musty smell from being too strong, but it is best not to have wind. Foods with strong odors, such as onions and garlic, should also be avoided from being placed together with wine. Similarly, it is best not to keep wine in the refrigerator for too long to prevent the smell of the refrigerator from permeating into the wine.
